In a ceremony at the National Hispanic Cultural Center on May 20, Molina Healthcare of New Mexico honored Guadalupe Guthrie, Comadre peer mentor, as a community champion for her work educating and mentoring breast cancer victims. Our program is honored that Guadalupe received the "Molina Community Champions Award." We are grateful to El Hispano newspaper for sharing this with our communidad! We need to acknowledge community heroes, who like Lupe give so much of themselves to help others.

Who are We?
Comadre a Comadre is devoted to serving Hispanic/Latina women and their loved ones through advocacy, education, information, resources, and support about breast health and breast cancer. All our services are free and provided in both Spanish and English by our experienced staff. Our Comadres are breast cancer survivors who are trained to access services and lend support from someone who "has been there."
What Do We Do?
We Educate
- On the early detection of breast cancer, breast cancer diagnosis and treatment, general health and well-being through community classes, pláticas, seminars, and one-on-one sessions.
We Connect
- By linking you with cancer services and resources.
- By linking you to community clinics that offer low-cost mammograms and free well-woman exams.
We Inform
- By offering you free printed materials on breast health and breast cancer so that you can make informed decisions on the screening, diagnosis, and treatment of breast cancer.
We Support You
- By putting you in touch with other women with breast cancer who can lend support.
- By meeting you at your medical appointments.
- By helping you to navigate through the maze of health care and cancer services.
- By calling you or visiting with you.
- At our bi-weekly support groups where you can share and get support from other women.
We Reach Out to Community
- By partnering with a large variety of cancer and health related organizations.
- At health fairs and other health-related events.
- By conducting classes on the early detection of breast cancer.

¿Quiénes somos?
Comadre a Comadre se dedica a servir a las mujeres hispanas/latinas y a sus seres queridos por medio de la defensa, educación, información, servicios y apoyo para la salud de los senos y el cáncer del seno. Todos nuestros servicios son gratuitos y nuestro experto personal los provee en español e inglés. Nuestras Comadres son sobrevivientes del cáncer del seno que están entrenadas para acceder a servicios y brindar su apoyo. Ellas han vivido esa experiencia.
¿Qué hacemos?
Educamos
- Le enseñamos sobre la detección temprana, diagnóstico y tratamiento del cáncer del seno así como sobre la salud y bienestar generales, por medio de clases comunitarias, pláticas, seminarios y sesiones individuales.
Conectamos
- La ponemos en contacto con servicios y recursos para el cáncer.
- La ponemos en contacto con clínicas comunitarias que ofrecen mamografías a bajo costo y exámenes gratuitos de buena salud para mujeres.
Informamos
- Le ofrecemos materiales impresos sin costo alguno sobre la salud de los senos y el cáncer del seno para que Ud. tenga información actualizada a la hora de tomar decisiones sobre chequeos, diagnóstico y tratamiento del cáncer del seno.
Apoyamos
- La ponemos en contacto con otras mujeres con cáncer del seno que prestan su apoyo.
- La acompañamos en sus citas médicas.
- La ayudamos a navegar por el laberinto de servicios para el cuidado de la salud y el cáncer.
- La llamamos por teléfono o la visitamos.
- La apoyamos en nuestros grupos de cada dos semanas, donde Ud. puede compartir y recibir apoyo de otras mujeres.
Alcanzamos a la comunidad
- Colaboramos con una gran variedad de organiciones relacionadas con el cáncer y la salud.
- Participamos en ferias de la salud y otros eventos relacionados con la salud.
- Damos clases sobre la detección temprana del cáncer del seno.
