The Health Education faculty here at UNM welcome you to our website. The Health Education Program has served the state of New Mexico, and its rich cultures and traditions, for nearly a half century!
We offer a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Health Education. In both programs you can concentrate in school health education or community health education. Teacher licensure preparation is available for students choosing the school health education concentration.
HED faculty are actively engaged in teaching, research, and service to our students and their educational/professional pursuits. Our graduates have been appointed to health education positions at the local, state, federal, and even international, levels. We welcome your interest in our programs of study and look forward to answering any questions you may have concerning admission or collaboration.
Our Mission
The Health Education Program offers courses of study to prepare Health Education and Health Promotion specialists at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Students are prepared to assume Health Education positions in schools, community, and public health agencies, and in health care and worksite settings. The national guidelines delineating the Roles and Responsibilities of Health Education Specialists serve as the basis for the course of studies at the undergraduate and graduate levels. In addition, special attention is given to preparing students to work within multicultural, multi-ethnic communities in ways that respect and support the healthy development of families and individuals within those communities.
