Eligibility Criteria
- You should be enrolled in the University of New Mexico.
- You must have completed 26 credit hours and program prerequisites.
- You must have a grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or more. However, some programs require a higher GPA; check with the specific program for requirements.
Both teacher preparation programs and non-teaching programs have specific criteria in addtion to the above eligibility criteria required for all programs. These are available from the specific program or the College Advisement Center.
Application Process
- Meet with a COE advisor to receive information on specific undergraduate majors and minors (click here for advisement contact information by undergraduate program). You will need to bring:
- If you are a UNM student, a complete set of unofficial academic transcripts from the UNM Records Office (Room 250, Student Services Center, 277-2916)
- If you are a transfer student, a transfer course evaluation from the UNM Admissions Office (277-2446)
- New Mexico Assessment of Teacher Basic Skills Test must be passed before you may apply to a licensure program. For testing information, including how to register, click here.
- Application packets for all undergraduate programs, except Special Education, are picked up at the COE Advisement Center in Hokona Hall and returned to the COE Admissions Department (Hokona Hall, Room 138). For Special Education, pick up and return completed applications to Jo Sanchez (Hokona 273; 277-5018).
Note: All Elementary, Secondary, and Early Childhood Multicultural Education program packets must include a Program of Study completed and signed by an advisor from the College of Education.
- The following programs have deadline dates:
Elementary Education: Fall Semester: February 1; Spring Semester: September 1
Secondary Education: Fall Semester: April 1; Spring Semester: September 1
