Tireman Library, in the UNM College of Education serves UNM students, faculty, and staff, as well as teachers employed anywhere in New Mexico (in public, private, tribal, and pueblo schools).  Library patrons may check materials out of the library. Materials may be checked out for two weeks (with no renewals). The library accepts returns in person, through campus mail, or by U.S. mail.

Tireman Library's collections includes about 100,000 education-related books and materials, with a strong emphasis on multicultural materials. Centerpieces of the library include the Anita Osuna Carr bilingual collection of children's books, curriculum materials, and an international and multicultural folktale collection.

Educational Media/Library Science Program

Tireman Library also provides a setting for courses in the Educational Media/Library Science Program offered through the Department of Language, Literacy and Sociocultural Studies. This program focuses on the education of teaching librarians. This program is for students who plan to work in school libraries, with endorsement by the New Mexico Education Department (PED).

The curriculum has expanded to include updated classes related to public libraries, special libraries, school libraries, and technology.  Most classes are scheduled for late afternoons and evenings.  For program information, contact Leslie Chamberlin at 505-277-7260 or by email at saticoy@unm.edu.
