Athletic Training

The mission of the UNM-ATEP is to provide a comprehensive and progressive, didactic and clinical foundation to prepare qualified professionals for a career in athletic training. Strong emphasis is placed upon the provision of opportunities within the curriculum for the development of skills encompassing the domains of athletic training. Through successful completion of the UNM-ATEP, graduates are prepared to pass the Board of Certification examination, to enter into the profession of athletic training as competent allied health care professionals, and provide optimal health care to the physically active.

Exercise Science - Undergrad

Exercise Science - Graduate

The Exercise Science Program integrates theory, clinical practice and research to educate exercise scientists, researchers, and cardiac rehabilitation program directors. Collaborations with other UNM departments and community programs complement students' multidisciplinary knowledge base. Students are actively involved in peer-reviewed research conducted in our state-of-the-art Exercise Physiology Laboratories (EPL), and they also work closely with faculty to publish in a variety of journals.

Health Education

The Health Education Program offers courses of study to prepare Health Education and Health Promotion specialists at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Students are prepared to assume Health Education positions in schools, community, and public health agencies, and in health care and worksite settings.

Physical Education teacher preparation programs prepare students to be physical educators and teacher educators in kindergarten to post-secondary school settings. Students use new technology, best practices, and time-tested principles to address trends in children's motor skills, obesity, and physical activity.

Our highly sought after Sport Administration Program has a proud tradition of preparing students for sport-related management positions within schools and organizations. The program is one of only four in the nation that offers doctoral studies and is also accredited by the North American Society for Sport Management (NASSM) and the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE). The curriculum includes unique diversity courses not found at other universities and invaluable experience working at major athletic events including the PGA Championships and the Olympic games.
