Scholarships for LLSS Students
- Awarded to a full time junior, senior, or graduate student.
- Demonstrate academic achievement maintaining an acceptable GPA of 2.5 or better.
- Demonstrate financial need (FAFSA).
- Preference will be given to student actively involved in Bilingual, Bicultural Education.
- Student must write a brief essay on his/her interests in Bilingual, Bicultural Education.
- May be awarded to same student in successive semesters providing student reapplies for scholarship.
- Demonstrate academic potential having achieved a 2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
- Demonstrate financial need for scholarship assistance.
- Be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student in the UNM College of Education, with first preference to students majoring in elementary education.
- Students must be from one of the 19 pueblos of New Mexico, with first preference to students from Acoma, Laguna, and Isleta Pueblo.
- The scholarship may be awarded to the same student in successive semesters until graduation, provided the recipient is making satisfactory academic progress toward a degree, and is maintaining a grade point average of 2.0 or better.
- Native American student as first preference and only if no qualified Native American student can be identified may the scholarship be awarded to other students.
- Recipients must be enrolled full-time in the College of Education.
- Scholarship will be awarded to a student enrolled in Educational Media Library Science Program.
- Demonstrate academic achievement with a GPA of 2.5 in all course work from accredited colleges or universities.
- Be making satisfactory progress toward completion of the program.
- Preference will be given to students who are Native American or Alaskan Native, which is defined as being an enrolled member of a recognized American Indian or Alaskan native tribe.
- Only if a qualified Native American or Alaskan Native cannot be located may the scholarship be awarded to other students.
- Awarded to an undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a degree in education and specializing in Spanish/English bilingual instruction.
- Be fluent in Spanish and English and express a commitment to the concept of philosophy of bilingual education.
- Be earning a degree in teacher education with specialization anywhere from preschool through secondary education.
- Demonstrate academic achievement, with GPA consistent with admissions standards for teacher education and/or graduate admissions and be making satisfactory progress toward graduation.
- Preference will be given to the student who has received the scholarship in the previous year, assuming he/she demonstrates satisfactory progress towards graduation, for a maximum total of two years.
- Special consideration will be given to applicants expressing a commitment to teach in New Mexico or the Southwest region.
- Scholarship recipient must acknowledge the donor by letter within 30 days of notification of the award, whether initial or annual review, providing a brief summary of his/her background and career plans. Acknowledgement must be submitted to the College of Education Office of Development to be forwarded to the donor. Failure to comply with this provision of the agreement may lead to the revocation of the award at the discretion of the Donor(s).
