 Nutrition and Dietetics - Prospective Students

 

Undergraduate

Admission to the Nutrition and Dietetics, B.S.

Students wishing to be accepted asn nutrition and dietetics majors must complete the application process through the College of Education. Information is available at the College of Education Advisement Center located in Hokona Hall. In addition to the minimum requirements for admission into the College of Education, the prospective nutrition/dietetics major must have a minimum overall 3.00 GPA (including transfer and UNM credit) and have completed the following courses with a grade of B or better: Nutr 244 and Chem 121 and 123.

Admission to the Post-Baccalaureate Preparation

All post baccalaureate students wishing to complete the Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) at the University of New Mexico MUST apply for and be admitted to the Nutrition/Dietetics Program to earn a second bachelor’s degree. Criteria for admission include: achelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, completion of Nutr 244 and Chem 121L or Biol 123 & 124L with a grade of B or better. Students admitted to the Nutrition/Dietetics Program will have priority if it becomes necessary to restrict class size. To complete requirements for the second bachelor’s degree, the student must successfully complete a minimum of 30 additional hours beyond the requirements for the first degree and must meet all degree requirements of the second degree, including residence requirements.

Graduate

Admission to the Nutrition, M.S.

The master of science in nutrition is designed to prepare students for careers in the field of nutrition and dietetics, including opportunities in administrative, clinical dietetics, and community nutrition programs. It is desirable that the student has an undergraduate major in nutrition/dietetics. Students without prior preparation in nutrition should contact a nutrition graduate advisor for more information by calling (505)-277-4535.
