Physical Education, B.S. Ed.
The Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE) program of studies leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science in Education is designed to prepare the student to teach physical education in elementary, middle, and/or junior and senior high schools (K-12). The program of studies includes 48 hours of general education coursework and 76 hours of content preparation. Students completing the program are eligible to apply for a teaching license in New Mexico. The PETE faculty strives to equip students with the content and pedagogical content knowledge necessary to smoothly transition from pre-service to in-service teaching.

Application Deadlines
Applications to the College of Education & Human Sciences are accepted on an on-going basis after the first semester of coursework within the program. Checkpoint 1 applications are due February 15 of the second semester of enrollment in the program courses.
Note: While applications are accepted on an on-going basis, please allow extra time for processing during the summer months.

Application Process
After you have completed at least 26 hours and have an overall GPA of 2.75, the College of Education allows you to apply for admission to the College of Education. Beginning April 2014, all BS-Ed Physical Education Teacher Education admission applications to the College of Education will be submitted by interested individuals ONLINE. If you are interested in the Physical Education Teacher Education program, you may use the instruction packet linked here to apply for admission to the College of Education . Please follow the directions provided in the instruction packet.
The Physical Education Teacher Education Program (PETE) requires that you successfully complete all College of Education requirements and PETE requirements to be admitted to the PETE program.
