COEHS Statement about the Washington Middle School Tragedy

Recently, the students, parents, educators at and the community around Washington Middle School in Albuquerque experienced the horror and senselessness of a school shooting. The UNM College of Education and Human Sciences shares in the fear, frustration, and anger that these good folks, our friends and neighbors, now endure. We also grieve for those connected to the school, for the life cut short too soon, and for those who loved that promise now lost. Despite our sorrow, we stand with Washington Middle School and Albuquerque Public Schools and have offered our assistance. We stand for schools as life-affirming places where youth flourish free from gun violence. We will work with efforts to end school gun violence and help heal the emotional wounds of those affected by the terror and tragic suffering it brings.
