Initial Entry Application

Completed after 45 hours, including EDUC 183 and EDPY 310, 2.75 cumulative GPA, indication of Teaching Field, indication of desired Diversity/Specialty pathway, and a current background check with liability insurance. State licensure examinations are also part of this application process. See your advisor for detailed information. (Applications are submitted online via Tk20.)

Progress Point II: Formal Application

Completed after 75 hours and the Pre-Professional Sequence. A 2.75 cumulative GPA, confirmation of 9-hr Diversity/ Specialty pathway, resume, 3 written statements, 3 reference letters, interview, and a background check with liability insurance. Description

The Elementary Education program offers an undergraduate degree with specialty areas in a number of teaching fields for the preparation and development of the professional educator.

The program strives to prepare the very best entry-level teachers for all of New Mexico's children; such preparation is enriched by the diverse, contrastive linguistic and cultural communities of the region.

There is a core set of General Education requirements necessary for Elementary Educators. Students should begin by seeking an advisement appointment with a COE Advisor. Initial applications should be submitted after 45 credit hours.

Field Experience

Once approved and admitted by the Elementary Education program, sign-in at the Field Service Portal each semester to complete field experience requirements.
